Troop ScoutParents Program

 

Hello Families of Troop 175,

    My name is Lynn Douglass and I head the Troop ScoutParents Mentoring Program.  As in years past, we want each new family to be paired with an established family so they will have a personal contact within the troop right away.  We all know how hard it is when first joining and how confusing all the paperwork can be. It is also difficult for new parents to “break into” the social aspect of our troop.

    We want to make this easier and perhaps inspire our new families to get involved.  There are always questions about advancement, medical exams, Scout accounts and payments, trip packages and summer camp.

    You will help the new families with all these questions and ease their transition. This will benefit both the new families and the troop.  This is not designed to help with advancements or achievements; this is purely for the social side of our organization. We hope that our mentor families will attend the new parent orientation, if possible and meet their new families. Wouldn’t it be great to recognize a friendly face?  From there, the mentors help as needed. 

    The Committee also hopes that our mentors can invite the new parent(s) to join them on an outing. There is no better way for them to get acquainted with us than to spend a weekend on an outing. Once the parents have gotten to know what a great troop we are, they are more willing to get involved and volunteer!

    Please consider volunteering for this special program. We have approximately 20 new Scouts joining us each year.  If your family has a sibling that is crossing over or if you benefited from the advice of your mentor family last year, you would be perfect for this job.
